Sept 16

Today was a travel day - wending our way from Souris to St. Peters - a distance of 31.9 kms on the route that we took, partly on hilly road, and mostly on the relatively flat Rail Trail.

Here is the track for the day - the dark blue line terminating by the inlet near the north shore. (On Friday, we complete the loop, and head back to Charlottetown, and the westernmost point of our ride - it will be at least 60 kms - sigh......)

Much of the Rail Trail is as described earlier - straight former rail track between forests. Not a lot of scenic view at all. But today, we did have a bit of variety.

First, there was a sheltered picnic table right by a pretty pond (Larkins Pond). The shelter was appreciated, given that at that point it was raining on us - the photos show some of the moodiness that such rain provides.

From the shelter, we espied some morning glories below us:

We had a cookie and drink break under the shelter, and then took off. A few kilometers later, we came across a bit of a bog - the neatest thing was the flash of red off in the distance - I love those maples!

We finally rolled into the town of St. Peters - something that actually rates as a "town" by our definition. It even had a tourist information place, featuring maps, washrooms (important at this stage of our ride), and souvenir t-shirts. It has at least 3 restaurants, a few inns, a few streets, a couple of gift shops, and several houses. We lunched at a recommended eatery called Rick's Fish&chips - where we had, er, fish and chips!

After lunch, we biked around some more, for another 7.9 kms. Then we checked into our B&B - one with a good wireless connection!

We walked over to another restaurant for supper - we were the only customers there. We were thinking about desserts, but they said that their selection was pretty limited - they have so few customers that they don't want their desserts to go bad. With that information, and the fact that the carrot cake that I was interested in wasn't available, we passed on the desserts. Hmmmmm.

Tonight the weather forecast shows a frost warning for this area. Hmmmmm.

But the forecast is for nice weather tomorrow. And that's a good thing. We're going to be checking out the Greenwich PEI National Park. Stephen's National Park Pass is sitting comfortably in Calgary, of course!
